How to check if someone is cheating in CS2

You can't see someone's screen, but you can check what they leave behind: their Steam account, their friends, the match demo and their stats. Then report them so Valve looks at it too.

1. Check their bans

Open their Steam profile (Tab, then click their name) and look for a VAC ban or game ban on the right. A ban in another game, or an old CS ban, doesn't prove anything about this match, but it's worth knowing. Our cheater checker shows bans for any profile, plus whether their FACEIT account is banned.

2. Look at their friends and account age

Cheaters tend to play with other cheaters, so a friend list with a lot of banned accounts is a warning sign. So is a brand new account with few hours. Neither is proof on its own: plenty of new accounts are smurfs or new players. ZeroStrike counts the banned friends and shows the account age for you.

3. Watch the demo from their view

The demo is the best evidence you have. Download it from the match history, play it back and watch the player in first person. The usual giveaways:

  • The crosshair follows enemies through walls, or sits exactly where an enemy is about to appear.
  • Instant flicks to the head that stop dead on target, round after round.
  • Pre-firing angles they had no information about, or ignoring the angles that are empty.
  • Kills through smoke on players they couldn't have seen.

Watch several rounds. One lucky flick or a good prefire isn't cheating; a pattern is.

4. Compare their stats with normal players

Instead of judging by eye, you can measure. ZeroStrike parses the demo and measures how often the crosshair is on hidden enemies, reaction times, time to damage and crosshair placement for every player. A metric that lands in the top 2% of verified clean players counts as a strike. Import the match on the import page and every player in it gets measured. Strikes are signals, not proof.

5. Report them

Hold the scoreboard key (Tab), right-click to get a cursor, click the player's name and choose Report. You can also report from their Steam profile: the "..." button, then Report Player, then "They are cheating in a game".

Valve says players aren't VAC banned on reports alone; other factors are taken into account first. Since April 2024 CS2 also has an Overwatch system again, which lets trusted partners review match demos.

What happens if they're banned

  • When a player is convicted of cheating and permanently banned, everyone who queued with them in a party loses Profile Rank and CS Rating too.
  • If you lost CS Rating in a match against a cheater, CS2 can give it back later, and tells you at the end of a match when your rating was adjusted.

FAQ

How can you tell if someone is walling in CS2?
Watch the demo from their view. A crosshair that tracks enemies through walls, or that sits exactly where someone is about to appear without any sound or info, is the clearest sign. Look for a pattern over several rounds.
Does reporting someone in CS2 do anything?
Reports are one of the things Valve looks at, but Valve says nobody is VAC banned on reports alone. CS2 also has Overwatch, which lets trusted partners review match demos.
Do you get your CS Rating back if you played against a cheater?
It can be given back. CS2 shows a notice at the end of a match when your CS Rating was adjusted, for example when you recovered points lost against a cheater.

Check a player now. Paste a Steam profile and see their bans, banned friends and strikes.
